Proud winner of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2015


1993 – Where it all began

Following a management buyout by Mark Davey and Geoff Dennis in January 1993, the Cladding Division of the Walcon Construction Group Plc is reborn as Lakesmere Cladding Ltd.

1999 – All change

Following years of successful growth, Lakesmere Cladding Ltd becomes Lakesmere Ltd to better reflect the expanding trading activity of the company. The Glasgow team also relocate to larger offices in Queenslie.

2000 - On the move

Following suit, the Lymm team also move from Ellesmere Port to larger premises in Lymm near Warrington. The company continues to expand with the launch of a specialist Glazing Division.

2003 – Setting the standard

In March, Lakesmere achieves accreditation from Investors In People.

2004 – The real deal

The Glazing Division is integrated into Lakesmere’s main business functions, enabling the company to offer the complete envelope package.

2005 - Simply the best!

Lakesmere is named ‘Cladding Specialist of the Year’ and the ‘Best of the Best’ at the Building Magazine Awards. The team also win a further five accolades at the Teamkal Conference Awards.

2006 – New team, new look!

Lakesmere expands its existing regional operations with the opening of a new office in Birmingham. One also becomes two as the South team is joined by Lakesmere South East. In the Summer, the company launches the new look website and corporate identity to become the Lakesmere that we know today!

2007 – Leaning forward

Lakesmere looks ahead with the implementation of several innovative new business strategies and embraces Lean Construction. A management restructure across the South and South East divisions sets the scene for further growth, expansion and success.

2008 – Happy Birthday!

There are plenty of reasons to celebrate as Lakesmere marks its 15 year anniversary and also takes enjoys a bumper year of industry awards, including winning Construction News's Business Growth Award the Kalzip Teamkal 40 years of Kalzip 'Best of the Best' award.

2009 – Eastern Promise

Lakesmere launches its International business venture by establishing a new office based in Abu Dhabi serving the Middle East, the GCC and North Africa. There’s expansion on the home front too following the acquisition and merger of North East based MDK Roofing to create a new regional office, Lakesmere MDK.

2010 – Off site rules

Lakesmere collaborates with supply chain partners Hemsec Installations to launch the unique modular SIPS system Thru-Wall. In the Middle East, Lakesmere secures its first contract, Princess Noura University in Riyadh, and back in the UK the team celebrate taking home the ‘Contractor of the Year’ accolade at the Corus Kalzip Teamkal Awards for the second consecutive year as well as winning three categories at the Scottish NFRC Awards.

2011 – On a winner

Lakesmere enjoys unprecedented industry award success in the first half of the year, being named ‘Specialist Contractor of the Year’ by both Building and Construction News as well as taking home the latter magazine’s awards for ‘Tomorrow’s Company’ and ‘Product Innovation’ for Thru-Wall.

2012 - McMullen Facades joins the group

In December 2012 Lakesmere acquired the trade and assets of leading façade contractor McMullen Architectural Systems Ltd. The company and its assets were transferred to a new subsidiary of Lakesmere, McMullen Facades Limited, and become part of the Lakesmere group of companies.

Earlier that year Lakesmere secured its largest ever order, The King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to design and install over 300,000m2 of Kalzip aluminium roofing.

Furthermore Lakesmere established a dedicated flat roofing division headed up by Mike Goddard, formerly of Rock Complete Waterproofing.

2013 - Lakesmere Group Established

2013 was the year that Lakesmere became the first UK tier-2 contractor to gain accreditation to the BS11000 standard for collaboration. A new dedicated office was opened in London to reflect the company’s growing presence in the high-rise specialist facade market and Lakesmere completed work on its first fully integrated BIM contract at the first direct arena in Leeds.

2014 - 21st Anniversary Year

In the year that Lakesmere celebrated its 21st birthday by taking part in numerous charity fundraising events, the company also posted its most successful financial results to date with turnover up 55% from £55.7m to £86.3m for the period ending January 2014. Lakesmere was also delighted to be named ‘Specialist of the Decade’ after receiving a special recognition award to mark the 10th anniversary of the 2014 Construction News Specialists Awards.

As part of Lakesmere’s continued growth and expansion as well as the ongoing investment in health and safety, Lakesmere appointed its first group compliance manager. The company launched a new dedicated glazing division to support projects in Scotland and the north of England, with further investment being pledged in resourcing and developing the company’s manufacturing capabilities both at its state of the art factory in Moira and the new Innovation Technology Centre in Winchester. From this dedicated manufacturing facility for metal fabrications, Lakesmere will self-produce a range of roofing and cladding sheets in addition to bespoke fabrications, gutters and panels for use on a number of its own contracts across the UK.
